Window Shades by David S. Lawyer March 2003 Clerestory window shades on S. side of sanctuary: End brackets are heavy duty (cast, not sheet metal) for large pins. Uses 1 1/2 inch diameter rollers. Someone once installed one or two 1 1/4" diameter which had small pins which required shims to keep the rectangular pin from rotating. Length of roller (excluding pin protrusions): 55" for #2 and #3 (#1 is westmost) 54 1/2" for #5 (others not measured). Shade fabric width is about 1" less. We need this heavy-duty system since shades (and rope-pulley system) is both heavy and exterior. If we had sheet metal brackets, they wouldn't allow rectangular pin to be inserted from underneath. Must remove nail "keeper" to remove rectanular pin. Pawls have all been disabled so there is always tension on rope (unless shade is all the way up). Some are disablesd by rust, but #2 and #3 (see below) were disabled with contact cement which might be enabled again by just prying on the pawls as the cement is not too strong. 2003: Purchased 2@ 1 1/2 inch ones from Sunshine Shade Shop, 127 La Porte, Arcadia. Due to thick plastic bushing on the square pins, the distance between brackets needed to be be 55 1/8" but was only about 55". So moved right bracket on #3 (counting W to E) but there was no free space to move brackets on #2. So pried with screwdriver to install #2. To remove, use a tiny scredriver and pry on butt end of square pin. Sash hooks in Henry House are International brand. These hooks are plastic and attach the sash cord cables to the window sash. Available in gray (hard to find) or black. Acme Screen: 577-0178 (home phone of Jim). E side of Fair Oaks N. of California. Low prices. He is neglecting his business and may fold up soon. Pasadena Awning Co. charged us high prices for inferior quality shades put up in Throop Hall.
