PROPERTY COMMITTEE REPORT 1995-1996 (add this sheet to the Annual Report) by David S. Lawyer During this one year period (as in 1994-5) still more progress was made in catching up with deferred maintenance. Most of the damaged window sills have been repaired. However there are still almost a hundred other items which remain to be done. A detailed list of these along with rough estimates of the time and material cost may be found in the wooden rack in Throop Hall. Due to low turnout, few work parties have been scheduled. But we have hired a handyman, John Miller to work on some of these projects on an "on call" basis. A major project was the repaving of the parking lot which cost over $6,500 (including rental of another parking lot while ours was being surfaced). Other work done on the church include: By DAVID LAWYER: Installed insulation & hangers on hot water piping under kitchen. Renailed many loose roof shingles. Painted and fixed leaks in 1/3 of roof gutters. Caulked leaks on tower walls and on W. facade (while hanging from rope). Replaced kitchen screens. Caulked & painted under window sills. Installed public telephone and call blocker. Fixed several sprinklers and pipes. Replaced 2 electric outlets in Throop Hall. Sanded & painted 4 @ rusting diagonal steel cross-ties (each 20 ft. long) in tower (using ladder & ropes). Fixed a few door locks and door handle upstairs. Painted exterior rusting kitchen range vent. In patio: Installed underground conduit to sprinkler valve. Installed automatic sprinkler valve by Del Mar and ran cable to it under Throop Hall. Obtained ladders & kitchen wall clock. Bought used tools at garage sales. Fixed Jesus window light crank. Fixed downspout leaks: near kitchen door and inside tower bell room. Attached main electric switchboard to wall (with anchor bolts) in electric basement. Crawled under building and unclogged leaking sewer pipe to Men's urinal. Purchased repair materials. By JOHN MILLER: Repaired (with glazing putty, wood putty, etc.) and painted numerous windows, window sills, and stage door threshold. Replaced broken glass panes and rebuilt a Throop hall transom window. Replaced fallen plaster in chair storage room, stage, central upstairs hall, and Morrison Room (also painted wall). Plugged leak where main electrical conduit enters wall by Del Mar (dug pit outside). Painted minister's study "balcony" floor. Replaced rusted underground conduit to Henry House. Installed locks on kitchen cabinets to be used for storing new dishes. Stained woodwork in Throop Hall. Refinished stage floor and stairways. Refinished kitchen table tops. By JOHN MILLER and DAVID LAWYER: Reroofed tower roof. Coated floor of tower bell room with emulsion and silver paint. Fixed new door stops so they don't fall down when door closes. Attempted (with partial success) to remove stains from building walls. Glued back top railing by basement stairs on Del Mar. By DAVID LAWYER and NANCY PALMER: Opened windows in Minister's Study which had been caulked shut and "sealed" with diagonally driven countersunk nails. Plus WARD ROGERS: Lowered down about 1500 pounds of old roofing from the top of the tower using mountain climbing ropes. By JIM STIVER: Rebuilt new windows for Minister's study and painted/plastered. Repaired folding banquet tables in Throop Hall. Repaired steel gate. Planted Laurel tree in front of church. Purchased property supplies. By WARD ROGERS: Ran errands. Installed air conditioner in RE office. Made telephone coin box. Checked property at night for security. Unclogged drains at apartments. Took window to be repaired (4 trips).
