dw_oper_long DISHWASHER DETAILED OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (by David S. Lawyer, May 1995 ) START UP PROCEDURE: 0. If it hasn't been used for over a month: Inspect the solution in the yellow EL detergent tank. Clean it out if slime has formed. 1. If the door is closed (down): Open it (see "Opening the Door"). 2. If garbage is visible inside it: Remove and clean the filter trays. 3. Close (lower) the door all the way down by pushing down on the round bar (door handle). 4. If the knob switch on the control panel was in "auto" you should hear rinse water being sprayed. If not, turn the switch to "auto". 5. Wait about 45 seconds for the spray water to warm up (feel the pipe on the right rear of the dish washer). 6. Close the drain valve at the bottom. If its already closed then it's likely that the last person using the machine neglected to drain out the used wash water. Turn off the machine by turning the switch to "manual", open the drain valve, wait for the water to drain, and go to step 4. 7. Immediately Stir up the white undissolved detergent in the bottom of the yellow EL tank on the wall. If no white detergent is visible add about a cup and stir. 8. When it's been a minute after you closed the drain valve (step 6.) you may turn on the electric water heater: Turn red knob to say 160 deg. If the small white pilot light above the red knob fails to light (indicates heat is on) press the small red reset button. 9. After a few minutes you will hear an initial wash cycle begin. Add about 1/2 cup of detergent (or stir up undissolved detergent). 10.At the end of this wash cycle the door will suddenly pop up. 11.Look at the temperature gauge on top for wash water. You may want to wait for the wash water to heat up to 160 deg before continuing. WASH PROCEDURE: 1. When a rack of dishes is ready to be washed, push it inside the washer and lower the door. It will wash for 50 seconds and then rinse for 10 seconds. After a few more seconds the door pops up. 2. If this is the first rack: During the rinse, the ball in the tube next to the green rinse liquid should rise up. If it doesn't turn the adjusting screw until it does. 3. If this is about the 7th rack washed since last adding (or stirring up) detergent: Add 1/4 cup or more of detergent to yellow tank and stir (or simply stir up undissolved detergent if it's there). 4. Remove rack of cleaned dishes. 5. If there are more dishes to wash go to step 1. If you are done washing dishes go to the "Shutdown Procedure" below. SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE: 1. Turn red heater dial to "off". Otherwise the heater may burn out. 2. Open the drain valve and turn switch from "auto" to "hand" 3. If the filter trays contain garbage: Lift them out and clean them using the sprayer over the garbage disposal. 4. Clean machine as needed. The wash water tank (below the filter trays) should be cleaned every few months. 4. Leave the door open so that the internal components may dry out. OPENING the DOOR: The door pops up by itself when washing is complete. It should be left open when the machine is not in use so there should be no need to ever manually open the door. However it only takes a few seconds to manually open it: Hold the door down with the handle (a round horizontal metal bar) while pushing on a white plastic roller on the top of the washer to the right rear. Then while still holding the white roller let the door up by releasing pressure you are putting on the handle to hold the door down. Once the door starts up, you may let go of the white roller. A split second later you may let go of the handle too and watch the door pop up by itself.
